The global hydration crisis is an urgent but often overlooked public health issue, affecting millions of people who cannot easily maintain adequate fluid balance. The World Health Organization (WHO) defines dehydration as a condition caused by excessive loss of body water. Worldwide, dehydration contributes to up to 30% of infant and toddler deaths linked to diarrheal disease, while about one in four older adults suffers from chronic underhydration—leading to kidney failure, confusion, falls, and hospitalization. These numbers reveal that hydration is not just a comfort issue but a critical determinant of survival and quality of life.
